Homestead Tax Exemption |
|
Filing for the Homestead Property Tax Exemption generally means that you are claiming the property as your primary residence, and therefore are subject to a reduction in your county/city property taxes. The exemption must be filed the first year that you own the house in order to be applied correctly. If you purchased your home from someone who also lived in the property as their primary residence, there is a very good probability that they already had the Homestead Exemption applied to the property. Meaning, if you do file, your taxes will likely stay the same; if you do NOT file, your property taxes will likely go UP. Please follow the links below for Homestead Tax Exemption information for the county that you live in. If your property is within the city limits of a city, you will need to check with that entity for their filing requirements. |
