Sample Credit Dispute Letters

Once you have reviewed a copy of your credit report, you will need to dispute any information that is inaccurate or incorrect.  This process can be done by mailing letters with your disputed information, detailing the discrepancy, and providing documentation, to whichever of the three credit bureaus has the incorrect data.  We strongly recommend sending support documentation to the credit bureaus when available.  For example, if there is a collection account listed with an outstanding balance, include a copy of the paid receipt with your dispute letter.

The credit bureaus generally will send you a letter stating that they have received your request and then a follow-up letter explaining their findings.

For your convenience, the letters below can be individually copied and pasted into any word document processing software.  Once you have the letters formatted in your software, complete the bottom portion of the letter with your full name, home address, social security number and date of birth.

Some things to remember:

  • make sure to include the account name and number you are disputing
  • be sure to include your personal information (bottom or letter) along with your signature
  • we recommend sending each letter return-receipt so that you have a record of when each dispute letter was received by the credit bureau
  • send supporting documentation when available
