The Closing Attorney The closing attorney is an integral part of the mortgage process. The closing attorney is responsible for the title and tax search on the property, for issuing title insurance for the lender and the owner (more on owner's title insurance), for obtaining the payoffs on any mortgages paid off in the transaction, and for actually conducting the closing of the transaction -- both purchases and refinances. As part of the GA Fair Lending Law compliance, Hillside Lending gives consumers the ability to choose the closing attorney from a list of approved closing attorneys.
